Terms of Use
These terms are a contract between you and Stoophunt for stoophunt.com. By creating an account or using the board, you agree to them. If you do not agree, do not use the product.
What Stoophunt is
Stoophunt is a search and alert tool. We collect publicly posted NYC housing ads (apartments, rooms, sublets, takeovers) from Facebook groups and other housing sites, put them on one board, and let you filter and get email when new posts match.
We are not a landlord, broker, property manager, or party to any lease. We do not show apartments, collect rent, run credit, or hold deposits. Contact and deals happen on the original post (often Facebook), not on Stoophunt.
Stoophunt is not affiliated with Meta, Facebook, Craigslist, or the other sites we read. Those companies did not endorse us.
Who may use it
You must be at least 18 and able to form a contract. You need an account to browse the live board, save places, or buy Hunt Pass. Keep your login to yourself.
Listings are third-party posts
Every card is someone else’s ad, copied as we found it. Posts can be gone, already rented, mistyped, or a scam. Photos, prices, and “available now” can be wrong. You have to open the original post, talk to the poster, and verify the place before you pay or sign anything.
We may omit, delay, or drop listings. We do not promise complete coverage of any group or site, or that a post is still live.
Never wire money, send a deposit, or share ID to a stranger because of a listing on this board without checking it yourself. If something feels off, walk away and write support@stoophunt.com.
Fair housing
Housing ads in the U.S. must follow the Fair Housing Act and New York law. We do not intend to publish ads that discriminate on protected characteristics (including race, color, religion, sex, disability, familial status, national origin, and other classes New York protects). If you see a listing that looks discriminatory, email support@stoophunt.com with the link. We may remove it. You must follow the same laws when you contact posters or post your own housing ads elsewhere.
Hunt Pass
Hunt Pass is an optional paid subscription. First time on an account: a 24-hour free trial with a card on file, then $7.99 every week until you cancel. One trial per account. After the trial (or if you already used it), checkout starts the weekly charge.
Cancel anytime in Manage subscription (Stripe customer portal). Cancel before the trial ends and you should not be charged. After a paid week starts, that week is generally not refunded; see Refunds.
Charges appear as STOOPHUNT and are processed by Stripe. Taxes may apply. Prices are in U.S. dollars.
Hunt Pass unlocks alerts and saved searches. We may change what the pass includes; if we do something material, we will say so in the product or by email.
Acceptable use
Do not: scrape Stoophunt; resell our board; attack or overload the site; create fake accounts to stack trials; use the product to harass posters or discriminate; or use it for anything illegal. We can suspend accounts that break these rules.
Our content and theirs
Stoophunt’s name, design, and software are ours. Listing text, photos, and post URLs belong to the original posters or their platforms. We show them so you can go read the source. Do not copy the board wholesale.
No housing guarantee
We do not guarantee you will find a place, that a listing is legal or safe, or that a poster will write back. Use of Stoophunt is at your own risk, provided “as is.” To the fullest extent the law allows, we disclaim implied warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement.
Liability
We are not liable for deals you make (or fail to make) with landlords, roommates, or scammers you met through a listing. To the fullest extent the law allows, our total liability for any claim about Stoophunt is limited to the amount you paid us for Hunt Pass in the three months before the claim, or $25 if you paid nothing. We are not liable for lost housing, lost profits, or indirect damages. Some states do not allow these limits; in those states they apply only as far as permitted.
Indemnity
You will defend and hold Stoophunt harmless from claims that arise from your misuse of the product or your conversations and contracts with listing posters.
Privacy
How we handle personal information is in the Privacy Policy. Using Stoophunt means you also accept that policy.
New York law
These terms are governed by the laws of the State of New York, without regard to conflict-of-law rules. Courts in New York County, New York, have exclusive jurisdiction, except that either of us may seek injunctive relief anywhere if needed to protect rights.
Changes and contact
We may update these terms. The date at the top will change. Continued use after that is acceptance. Material billing changes will be called out before they hit a new charge when we reasonably can.
